Modern Research

Where to find us.

We spend a lot of time where research administrators gather — sometimes at a booth, more often in the hallway between sessions. If you’ll be there too, come say hello or set up time with the team.

Research administration is too broad, and changes too quickly, for anyone to learn it alone. Much of what we know came from someone who took the time to explain it. In this session, a mentor and a mentee talk through their own relationship from both sides. It began with a request to learn one specific skill for working with an office’s data. It grew into a new way of thinking about the work itself: seeing data, staff, and workflow as parts of one system, where a change to one shapes the others. Their story points to something larger about the field. Mentoring works in both directions, giving the mentee new questions and the mentor a sharper understanding of what they know.
